Professor
Mao received his PhD from Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology,
Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. He then worked as a postdoctoral in the
Institute of Genomics, Clemson University, USA from 1996 to 2000. After that,
he worked as an Assistant Professor at Northern Illinois University, USA. Since
2004, he became a principle investigator at ICS-CAAS. His expertise area is in
wheat genomics and functional genomics.
The current interest of Dr. Mao’s lab is to understand the molecular
mechanisms underlying wheat polyploidization and subsequent evolution, especially
those related to yield components. Dr. Mao’s lab is also interested in the keys
steps in wheat domestication, evolution and human selection. They use
functional genomic tools to study important biological events such as
flowering, flower and seed development to yield potential in wheat.
