Agroscope and University of Geneva

Haoran Peng is a Ph.D. student working in the Crop Genome Dynamics Group directed by Dr. Etienne Bucher at Agroscope, the Swiss Centre of Excellence for Agricultural Research. The Crop Genome Dynamics Group focuses on how epigenetic factors and transposable elements' mobility contribute to genome evolution to apply these findings to accelerate crop breeding. The presented research was funded by European Research Council (ERC) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Haoran recently published a review in Current Opinion in Plant Biology, summarizing current knowledge on extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) research in plants. Today, he presents his latest results about the biology of a newly discovered Helitron transposon in wheat.
