Establishing theory and technique of asymmetric somatic hybridization of bread wheat. With this “somatic introgression” approach, ‘Shanrong’ series of wheat introgression derivatives with diverse elite agronomic traits were generated, among which Shanrong No. 3 (SR3) shows both robust growth and high yield in saline field. In past 15 years, SR3 has been recommended as the Yellow River Deltna saline-alkali land promotion. By using SR3 and other somatic introgression variety lines, in combination with natural accessions, several specific allelic genes responding to salinity and drought stresses are detected. Tese results have been published in Genetics, Plant Cell, New Phytol, Plant Biotech J, Plant Phys, Plant J, etc.
