Dr.
Umara Sahar Rana, from Pakistan, is an Assistant Professor at University of
Agriculture Faisalabad where she earned her B.Sc (Hons.) and M.Sc (Hons.)
degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics. Following completion of her master’s
program, she was awarded a faculty development scholarship funded jointly by
Government of Punjab and University of Agriculture Faisalabad to pursue her
doctoral research at Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA under the
supervision of Dr. Guihua Bai. Rana’s research identified genomic regions
associated with resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB) in US winter wheat.
She also developed and characterized wheat germplasm for durable rust
resistance and reduced fungicide use. She recently been awarded with “2022
Women in Triticum Early Career Award” by Borlaug Global Rust Initiative (BGRI).
She is passionate about agriculture sciences because it has the power to
transform people’s lives. She fondly enjoying her role as an academic person,
wheat researchers and an administrator at University of Agriculture Faisalabad.
